As the regs will know, the last two months have been touch & go with bandwidth issues, as in using near enough all of my available bandwidth for this domain/site. At this rate next month we would have started having website/forum black outs from the middle of the month/towards the end of the month depending on traffic useage of existing members & new members signing up using up what little was spare as things stand. So basically half way through the month I would have had to turn the website & forum off, something I didn't want to do, because I enjoy providing this playground for you & I also love having it here. So, after much thinking about it... Lot's of careful planning... Some hard work... I have come up with a solution... More on this as & when the news & confirmation comes in... Right, so the plan is... This forum here @ www.ganjataz.co.uk will be getting moved too another address/server. (When I can get the database too backup & transfer the fucker fully.) All members, posts, PM's & such should go onto the new server, so all will continue as it has done, touch wood. A new forum will replace it here, but only for the GanjaTaz.co.uk updates & site info. Also as a guestbook for my poetry & photography stuff. End result = New server has much more space & bandwidth I/we can use. No adverts or pop ups because the guys at the new site are kewl like that*, so only thing that really changes is the URL you visit.  (* & I pulled in a few favours.) If the database refuses too back up, worst case scenario is those who ain't already done so, can just rejoin new board at new addy & it's service as usual on a much more usuable board where bandwidth & space isn't gonna be an issue. Just a case of clean start all around as too old posts & such, well till I can suss out a way of gettingt he info from the database in chunks & putting them back together in right order.    |

/shuffles along too plan B while crushing plan A up & throwing it over his shoulder Right, after many goes at backing up the database here then trying too install it on the new server it has become obvious that idea (The alleged *idiot proof - works no problem blah blah blah* easy way) is not working... *did some reading up on it* /did some research Only too find out it's because anything upwards of 1MB in datasize is not the easiest of things too bloody transfer database/mySQL'wise.  That means Plan B just got mucho complex, as it nearly meant chopping the database up into 30 odd bits, then grabbing my balls & praying to *insert chosen deity here* it all got put back together properl Sooooooooooo, moving on from that idea cos it sounds like much too much fucking hard work I also stumble across summin elsewhere... Seems me hosts only allow so much info transfer when doing stuff like this, & yup, you prolly guessed it, we are not just over the quota, but waaaay over the quota you can happily transfer in one go.  They let you transfer about 10MB for this kinda thing in one go... How much is Taz trying too move in one go? Just over 37MB. :=P Now, Plan C sounds too bloody easy to be true... More on that as & when it happens. |

Nope, I now have 2 places I can put a forum, here or on the other server where I have been given space & a database too use.doesn't really matter I guess... Nope, it does, you lot are part of the community & this affects you, so asking questions is good. will it help if we stop using the forum while you sort it out... Should I need that, I will simply turn the forum off as & when required, it's not an issue. Back up plan too that is the fact this place will be locked down for a few days with a redirect pointing too the new URL. & when this forum gets unlocked after all is up & running there will be a link here (Already is in a way) telling new members that wanna sign up for the community too do so at the new addy rather than here as this will only serve as an archive for the old threads & members reference. |

It is really simple, this forum is going nowhere in effect, we will just stop posting here, the threads will still be here, your account will still be here. What I am gonna do is copy this database, move it too the new domain name, install it, make sure it runs right, then all the information & details you use/have here will also be over on the new domain. When I am satisfied it's 90% in order (That last 10% is where you guys use it & find the little bugs or issues I missed which only users can find anyway) I inform you all that the transfer/change over is on, give a time & date when the new board is fired up & ready too use with the new link too it, you then use that link & post away as per norm on the new board. So, in idiot proof, non geek speak lingo it goes like dis... www.ganjataz.co.uk/Forum (Which is where you are now) changes too www.ganjataz.com/Forum (Which is where we will be going.) Only & I repeat only on the date I tell y'all too. Till then, stay away cos you may b0rk summin by prematurely trying too post or register or whatever & it is still in a fragile state cos the code is being played with or in the middle of being played with. |
