The Mission, should you choose to accept it:

Hunt down Websites Or Forums Using This Servers/Websites Bandwidth/Resources.
Those that are using our resources, without giving us a proper link back that is.

Sites using our bandwidth without linking traffic back to us are stealing our bandwidth & stopping us getting more Features from possible outside traffic revenue funding.

& those using the bandwidth without crediting us or linking to us are leeching the bandwidth we do have, taking away the Features you like or want back.  Because their is no link back or direct pointer to this site, we do not gain any outsider traffic that we could benefit from, but we instead lose out on available bandwidth & pay for the images hosting on other forums or sites etc.

So any of you who are good with...

Google, Searching through links or back links: From Search results.
Tracking Ripped images or resources that are vital to this site.
Interested in helping the community grow.
Want the servers power dedicated to our use rather than others.
Know & understand the F.A.Q here.
& they are well brushed up on the different stances
or allowed useage of the different resources I mean.
Fancy being nosy for the good of us lot.
Can spare the time.

I guess it's about time we assembled a small recce party as this is now becoming a bigger issue.  The small strain is getting noticible.  So resolving, or at least fighting it now, will stem the further damage it can do.

Any good hits, or catches followed by a good shut down of a source chewing away at our power cables will be rewarded in some form.  Or getting a site ripping from us, to change the error of it's ways & become a Back link site or Affiliate/Partner site will also get a bonus of some form.

If a few members have the time & inclanation & this becomes more of a regular thing, then a special Task Force will be set up.  A new User Group for the role will be created & with that will come certain benefits and privelidges.

Starting this action now will also help us get a better Page Rank within the Search Engine System, again, bringing us more general traffic that we can eventually benfit from if we get enough that we can get a traffic sponsor deal that will not interfere with the Regular Member Areas/Forum.

So, step forward the Brave & the willing...

A couple of footnotes on the above to clarify a few questions that may arise.

Websites linking back to us is good.

"Yes, but won't the new surfers use up some of our bandwidth!"

True, they do, but as most of the site is designed so that the web pages are fast & valid, they are very small, so do not eat into our traffic much.  The Forum uses more Bandwidth than the casual Website Surfer who has just strolled in from a Search Engine hit/Result.  So posting here gains us no Profitable Income From possible Banner or Merchant Revenue chances, and I wouldn't want to add adverts or such in the Forum area or anywhere else their is an Interactive System.

"So if we get more Casual Traffic, some areas will kind of get sponsored?"

Yes, we will also do better in the Search Engine Rank game, thus some High Traffic Areas that do not effect the Forum experience as it is with so much as a non related text link for revenue purposes can help sustain the Community as it is, and maybe allow us to grow beyond our current means.

"So if a another Website or Forum is so much as using this sites stuff and isn't showing a direct link back to the homepage or forum or mini site it shoulod specifically point at, we need to tell you about it?"

Yes.

Iz okies, I think we have a few here who have most of the skills or at least all bases can be pretty much covered for the moment.

I just want to start a small recce outfit, that will grow in number/skill as we do/need.

& I can always drag in a few specialist Mercs for some tasks.  Ebil

I need to plug some of this juice leakage though, it's a big enough blip on the scope to now warrant dealing with before the bulge becomes a burst that grinds us to a stand still/black-out.

I'll see if I can track anything down in just a second, but as a thought - why not turn external linking off? This'll prevent sites using images from here.

Those with Google Bars or Other Browser Tools that enable you to vote for webpages/websites are advised to only vote once in a while for a page you thought was worthy of voting for, rather than mass voting in one big session, just voting cos you think it will help...  It won't...

They have the results filtered and can spot patterns of votings against IP's with rate ratios n allz dat jaazzzz'malarky.

We can gain a better standing in the Searchg Engine Repitation levels, again we can benefit because we gain more credibility.  Thus scoring brownie points with a view to a sponsor forsome goodies and maybe some extra space or more bandwidth shitz.  Or at least a dumping ground for the database back ups. Cheers.

It's a double edged sword, well kinna.
Part of the traffic income, advertising/word of mouth is cos of the smileys & such, which I wanna share, then again each one has to balance up to name marketting or backlink value...
Banning the old hotlink would seem to me to cause or cripple some areas that are fragile crucial elements in the overall picture of how the site generates the silly or small percentages of geally food traffic we get.  Cutting that out or even slicing around and screwing up some sort of allow some folders don't allow others could still probablyy now cause issues cos the site is so intricate & oddly developed.  Thinking 'umm'  Shake

Hunting the blatant thieves or misusers without any positives involved for this server set up is a much easier option, plus more fun for a certain few...  Ebil

There's an explicit link to your site there, seemingly as an advert. I'm not sure whether or not you know about that one though.

Another there.

I would love to help out the site, but I am afraid that I ride the short bus, so that's not really feasable for me.

Do you have a site meter that tracks all links to the site?
